The Making of Charlemagne's Europe
An academic research project funded by the AHRC, aimed at creating a database of all surviving documentary evidence for the reign of Charlemagne, to be made available online to the public.
The database and research attempts to provide precise and systematic answers to some of the most fundamental research questions associated with Charlemagne's empire (768-814): how it worked at grass-roots level, and the extent of its coherence as a functioning whole.
